WARNING AGAINST INFLATION
COMPLACENCY
A warning against complacency
in the face of
inflation was sounded last week by Merryle Stanley
Rukeyser, economic analyst, while in Seattle as a
lecture speaker.
What he had to say is significant in view of
constantly rising living costs-together with increas-
ing taxes to pay for increasing government costs. In
an interview in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Mr.
Rukeyser said: "I caution top management not to be
complacent of government waste and fiscal blunders.
Business leaders will render a service if they put
themselves on the side of prudence, efficiency and
good management of public and private affairs."
"Business should not be deterred from talking
boldly because of fears of political reprisals."
The well known analyst and financial columnist
said further that it is futile to try to balance un-
controlled waste on the spending side with higher
tax receipts.
"There is no solution short of rigorous economy
all along the line in government expenditures," he
said.
