Bishop P Randolph Shy of the Sixth Episcopal District of the AME church, was the speaker at the ITC Chapel, orch. ? at the Matriculation Day services honoring students entering Center second term. The 41 students are from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Alabama and northern India. They represent AME, AMEZ, Baptist, Holiness and Methodist churches.
"The Place where We Stand" was the title of the very practical and helpful message that came from Bishop Shy's rich background as pastor, educator and church administrator. Bishop Shy had fine rapport with his ITC audience and the humor and challenge of his message brought an enthusiastic response. He said in part "Many men underrate the place where they stand. With reverence and dedication we must do our best in that place. God was back in the desert where Moses saw the burning bush. He will meet us in our desert place and help us transform it."
Bishop Shy is a member of the Board of Trustees of ITC and comes from a distinguished career in the pastorate Alabama and in educational work at Miles College, Birmingham and as Dean at Lane College, Jackson, Tenn. He is a graduate of Paine College with an MA from both Fisk and Columbia Universities and further study at the University of Chicago and at Northwestern.
President Harry V. Richardson presided over the Matriculation Day service. Dr. Joseph A. Johnson presented the Matriculants and Dean Charles B. Copher was in charge of the induction ceremonies.
