Col. Allen T. Bird, County Chairman of the Citizens' Military Training Camp Association, announces that work of enrollment of Santa Cruz County candidates for attendance at the camp will begin next week; and he will open the campaign Monday morning by addressing the Nogales High School at the hour of Assembly-9 o'clock A. M. Chairman Bird will arrange for assistance from eminent speakers, and the 25th Infantry Regiment Band will enliven the proceedings with patriotic selections.
Work of preparation for housing the Training Camp is in progress at Camp Stephen D. Little, and is moving apace. A special barrack facing the Athletic Field is in course of construction, and preparation will be made for entertainment and rest rooms for those from abroad visiting their sons and friends in the camp.
Colonel Dougherty states that Lieut. Bob Thomas, a cavalry officer in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, who is Athletic Director of the Public Schools at Mesa, Arizona, has been detailed to serve as Athletic Director at the Training Camp. Lieutenant Thomas is one of the most noted and competent directors of athletics in all Arizona. He is a native of Bisbee, educated at the University of Arizona, and was Athletic Director of the Douglas Public Schools before signing up at Mesa.
Lieutenant Thomas has written Colonel Dougherty that the entire football team of Mesa will attend the camp, and he will urge other High Schools to send their teams,
in which case there will be a great statewide football tournament as a marked feature of the Training Camp.
