Full Text
"At about eight o'clock in the evening whilst C.C. Brysingill was sitting in the house of a Mrs. Woods, three men, named respectively Pile, Govan Paine, and Larkin Paine, all well armed—two of them with double-barrel shot-guns, and the other with a rifle—approached the house, and Larkin Paine kicked the door open, and immediately a shot was fired at Brysingill by Govan Paine. The shot apparently not proving fatal, a second was fired, which brought him to the floor. The wounded man was enabled, however, to escape to the residence of a neighbor, where he lingered until three o'clock on Sunday afternoon, when he expired. He was shot in the arm, stomach and face. Govan Paine and Pile fled, and as yet have eluded arrest. Larkin Paine has been arrested, and is now in jail in this place, (Helena.) "
Mrs. Woods, in whose house the killing took place, is a daughter of Larkin Paine. We are informed that jealousy was the cause of this unfortunate difficulty.
