Singing star Joni James will headline the once postponed Destroyer Force Ball scheduled for 9 April at the Naval Station gym 302. A crowd of better than 2,500 sailors and their girls are expected to be on hand for the evening of dancing and entertainment.
The ball was originally scheduled for last November, but the majority of the Newport-based ships put to sea during the Suez crisis forcing the postponement of the affair.
Rear Admiral John C. Daniel, Destroyer Force Commander anticipates a success similar that of the November 1955 ball which had a South Seas theme.
This year, the gym will be decorated in a western motif.
Miss James, a hit at last summer's Newport Carnival of Music, will be the headline attraction of the night. Accompanying the recording star and playing for dancing will be the Naval dance band from the Naval School of Music, Washington D. C. The Deslant Band will also play.
Tickets will be one dollar for sailors of the Destroyer Force. Ladies will be admitted free.
Captain George G. Molumphy, Commanding Officer of the destroyer tender USS Cascade, has been appointed general chairman of the ball committee.
Destroyermen attending will wear dress blues. Their guest will wear either formal or semi formal dresses.
