A gentleman from Uxbridge informs, that on Wednesday night last the house of Mr. David Draper, Sen. of that town, was consumed by fire, when four persons perished by the flames, viz. Mr. Draper, aged about 80 years, his wife, aged about 85, and two grandchildren. Mr. David Draper, Jun. with his family, lived in the same house. His wife, who slept in a lower room, on discovering the fire, ran up stairs, to attempt rescuing the aged couple (who were cripples) and her children; the flames however had got to too great a height, that in order to save herself, she was obliged to leap out of a window, and broke one of her anccles. Notwithstanding this accident, she afterwards entered a lower window, and took out an infant that lay with her. The remainder of the family escaped.
This sad catastrophe is said to be occasioned by leaving some pine knots in a chimney.
