FROM Lake CHAMPLAIN.--Apprehensions of a visit from the enemy, continued at Plattsburgh on the 20th ult. The British have 2 or 3,000 men and 80 or 90 pieces of cannon at Isle au Noix, and are preparing an expedition--so says a deserter. Gen. Drummond and Com. Yeo are gone to Kingston again. They staid but a few days down at Montreal. "If they can find an opportunity to do anything against Sackett's Harbor during the winter, they will undoubtedly seize it with eagerness. They know their triumph there would be a terrible disaster to us. Our commander there is, however, equally impressed with the high importance of his trust--and will make himself, and men means, as strong as he possibly can--and maintain an unrelaxed vigilance. 200 ship carpenters are said to have gone to the harbor to build additional vessels, to have them ready to launch as soon as the Lake is free from ice. It may be found expedient to man those vessels fairly with landsmen."
