PORTSMOUTH, April 12.

Translation of a Letter from the Chevalier de la Luzerne, to his Honor the President of this State.

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 10, 1783.

SIR,

His Majesty has been informed of the public marks of joy shewn by the State of New-Hampshire on the birth of Monseigneur the Dauphin. He has seen with much satisfaction the part which the citizens of your State have taken on this happy event: The King has commanded me to express his sensibility on this subject, and to assure the citizens and inhabitants of the State of New-Hampshire of his affection, and the particular interest he will always take in their prosperity.

I have the honor to be with the most respectful attachment, your Excellency's most obedient humble Servant,
