Mr. Webster's Resolutions.

The Resolutions offered by Mr. Webster, respecting the repeal of the Berlin and Milan Decrees, must meet with the cordial approbation of every honest man in the nation, whatever may be the party name, by which he is called. An enquiry by Congress into the truth of the assertion proclaimed to the world, by the French government, is equally due to the honor of the nation, and to the character of its Chief Magistrate. If the people have been made to "believe a lie," it is all important to ascertain who is "the Father of it." For ourselves, we have no difficulty in determining between the veracity of the Duke de Bassano, and the integrity of the President of the United States. The systematic hypocrisy, by which "the grand destinies" of the French Empire have been "developed," is enough to convince us of the "courtly insincerity" of its minister the Duke; whilst every feeling of our national pride revolts at the base libel he has published, against the honor and integrity of our President.

Mr. Madison and Mr. Russell will no doubt, gladly avail themselves of the opportunity proposed to be given them; to put an end to the speculations which the assertion of the Duke, has given rise to; by openly controverting its truth, and recording the proofs of their innocence upon the journals of the National Legislature.
