Harriett West Is
Now Major In WAC

WASHINGTON, D. C.-(ANP)-

Among the 18 Wac officers who have been promoted to the rank of Major, the War Department announced the name of Captain Harriett M. West, one of the members of the first class to be graduated from Fort Des Moines training School. Major West was former secretary to Mrs. Mary McLeod Bethune.

The new majors will be known officially as field directors rather than as majors, until September 1, when the auxiliary corps will formally become a part of the Army. They have already put on their gold oak leaves, the insignia of office.
