Mr. Editor—Allow me to express a hope that the proposed meeting of the County Temperance Society at North Cornwall, on the 22d instant, will be attended by delegates from all the local associations in the county. Besides the ordinary exercises of the occasion, arrangements are to be made for the due observance of the Twenty-Sixth of February—the day which has been designated by the National Institution for a simultaneous meeting (within their respective limits) of all the Town Societies throughout the United States. The happiest effects may be justly anticipated from this measure. Many new societies will be formed, and a new and vigorous impulse given to those already in operation. In short, Mr. Editor, it is proposed on that day to set up our "Ebenezer" in humble acknowledgment that "hitherto hath the Lord helped us." And truly when we contemplate the altered views and habits of such a large portion of our own citizens and of civilized man every where, when we reflect upon the success which has attended the efforts of benevolence in this great department of morals, we have abundant reason to "thank God and take courage." Public opinion, which, in our country especially, is possessed of resistless power, coming at length to the aid of the philanthropists, in their glorious conflict. The issue of the conflict is no longer doubtful; but let us beware lest the fruits of victory be lost by our supineness and neglect.
