BREMERTON, May 17.—The plan of the citizens of Port Orchard bay to secure a legal holiday in the navy yard June 5, when "Puget Sound Navy Yard and Port Orchard Bay Day" is to be celebrated at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition, has not met with entire success. United States Senator S. H. Piles has wired Edgar L. Gale, chairman of the joint committee on navy yard day, stating that at a recent cabinet meeting it was decided not to grant the holiday on that date. The secretary of the navy, however, has been instructed to authorize the commandant of this yard to grant leave to all employes of the yard who can be spared on that day. This was the arrangement which was made last May, when the men of the Pacific fleet paraded in Seattle. At that time practically all those employed at the yard who wished to see the parade were granted leave.
