HR 356 Payments Reach $21,600,000

Retroactive adjustments amounting to an average of $642 have been received already by retired BRTers through the action of HR 356, which was just signed into law a little over a month ago.

National Legislative Representative Harry See reports that the latest figures from Railroad Retirement Board indicate that 33,600 retired railroad employees have received back payments under HR 356 provisions for an overall total of $21,600,000.

Back payments to spouses have been made in 11,400 cases, for amounts totaling $3,300,000.

In addition, there are some 2,500 retired employees and 2,500 spouses whose monthly benefits are in the process of being adjusted.

These are all cases where special circumstances require manual calculation and adjustment. Payments are being made as rapidly as possible.
