The distresses of the poor in this city, owing to the extreme severity of the season, are so alarming, that the corporation have been induced to request the respective Clergymen to preach CHARITY SERMONS on Sunday next, for their immediate relief. -- There probably never was a stronger call upon the compassion and charity of such of the citizens as have it in their power to contribute; and it is hoped that the humane and liberal spirit for which this city has been distinguished, will be exerted on this present melancholy occasion.
