STRIKE LEAD IN NEW
TUNNEL AT NUKA BAY
More elated than ever with their quartz mine at Nuka Bay.
Tom Babcock, of the rich Downey & Babcock holdings, arrived in Seward Saturday night bringing news that they have struck the lead in the last new tunnel; that the ledge is holding up bigger and values with it even larger. The ore is a blue quartz, a fine character of rock.
The hard-working partners who undoubtedly will soon be wealthy men, have been very active preparing for a new mill site the purchase of which has been held in abeyance for a considerable period owing to the conservative policy which is marking the gradual growth of the property. However, they have just about decided the type of mill they will buy, it is said, and no doubt same will be arriving within the next few weeks.
Mr. Babcock came in with Capt. Pete Sather, of the Nuka Bay Rolfe Line and expected to return today to the camp with supplies and mail.
The weather down there has been good and at the present time only six inches of snow covers the ground which is little compared to former years.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Downey are in excellent health and send their regards to their many friends.
