ASKS BIDS FOR 85,000 1927 AUTO LICENSES

Phoenix, Ariz., Aug. 21-- Bids were invited this week by James H. Kerby, secretary of state, on 85,000 automobile license plates for 1927, an increase of 13,000 over the order placed for the present year. August 30 was the date set for opening tender.

Arizona will return next year to the color scheme of black lettering on a copper background, pronounced by the department of commerce in a letter on file with Secretary Kerby to be the handsomest and most legible plate adopted in any state for the year 1925. Commercial cars will carry plates lettered in black on an orange background.
