Senate and Representative Appointments:
We would wish to keep clearly before the minds of the Republicans in this county the importance attached to their success in the coming election. Many reasons might be given why we should make a strong effort, and prominent among them is the duty devolving upon the next Legislature of making choice of a United States Senator. The political character and principles of that Senator depends upon the complexion of the next Legislature. If we send a Republican Senator to the next Congress in the place of Chas. E. Stuart, we must elect a Republican Legislature. And hence it can at once be seen that much importance is attached to the success of our nominees for Senator and Representatives at this election. Keep this fact in your minds, Republicans of Cass County. We know that you do not desire to send a pro-slavery United States Senator to the next Congress. You will decide by your choice of members of the next Legislature whether you do or not. See to it, then, that good and true men are nominated for these positions, and we have no fears as to the result of the election.
