WASHINGTON (ANP)-- Mrs. Mary Church Terrell, a prominent lecturer and civic leader, was one of the five persons who received certificates of honor last week by the Washington chapter of the Americans for Democratic Action.
Approximately 500 persons witnessed the presentation of awards which were made at ADA's fourth annual garden party held last Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Friendly.
Among others receiving awards were Elmer Davis, Oscar L. Chapman, Benjamin C. Sigal, Mrs. Francis Adams, and The Washington Post. The Post was honored for its cartoons, editorials and news stories on the fight for home rule in the District of Columbia and for the "type of understanding which this community requires and deserves." The award was received by Merle J. Pusey, associated editor of the Post.
Mrs. Terrell who was the only Negro to receive the ADA honor, was cited for her vigorous and courageous stand on the problem on non-segregation in the District of Columbia.
