To Renew Old Fight
Bill to Create Office of District Attorney Is Introduced in House Today By Thurmond of Atoka.
A bill creating the office of district attorney and abolishing the office of county attorney was introduced in the house this afternoon. This will revive the old fight over abolishment of the present county attorney system which has arisen in previous sessions of the legislature. The bill was introduced by J. A. Thurmond of Atoka county.
The district attorney system would become effective after January, 1917. It provides for district attorneys each judicial district of the state. The district attorney is made an assistant to the attorney general without additional compensation. The district attorney receives salary and one for war. In Oklahoma county it provides for the state carrying its own rural and public schools buildings the fund to be raised by taxation.
