Dr. McElroy, who has been spending the winter season in Santa Cruz, has written to the Secretary of the American Bible Society, that the government of the island has enacted a law that all slaves shall be sent to school for four years, beginning with their fifth year. To meet the spiritual wants of these schools, and of several large adult Sabbath-schools connected with them, Dr. McElroy has requested that the American Bible Society send out five hundred Bibles and one thousand Testaments, promising himself to see to their distribution among those who greatly need and will make use of them.
