Full Text

Cowes, Aug. 18.—Arrived here this morning the American ships "Great Britain and Charles Carroll," from Cherbourg, having on board the ex-King of France, Duke and Duchess d'Angouleme, Duchess de Berri with her two children the Duke de Bordeaux and his sister with their respective suites.

The arrest of Prince Polignac has put into the power of the government of France the two most obnoxious ministers, Peyronnet being previously arrested—

The French funds had fluctuated somewhat, owing possibly to the movement in Paris of the unemployed and dissatisfied workmen; but we repeat this is not the cause for alarm as to the stability of the throne of the King of the French.

Nothing has hitherto transpired in France to create any alarm as to an immediate reaction, and should a beneficial course of government be steadily pursued, the longer that is delayed the less probability will exist of its effecting any thing.

Event Details

American ships Great Britain and Charles Carroll arrived in Cowes from Cherbourg carrying ex-King of France and Bourbon family members with suites. Arrest of Prince Polignac follows prior arrest of Peyronnet by French government. French funds fluctuated due to unemployed workmen in Paris, but this does not threaten stability of King of the French's throne. No signs of immediate reaction in France if beneficial government pursued.
