PITTSBURGH (ANP)- The Carnegie Hero Fund commission announced last week the award of a bronze medal to Grover A. Harris, 65, for his heroism in rescuing a four-year-old Negro girl from a fire in Joplin, Mo., last April.
Harris, a retired iron molder, went through dense smoke and flames to carry Della Mae Robinson from the crib in her bedroom when her parents' one story frame house was afire. No one else was in the house. Della suffered third degree burns of the upper body and arms, and died later that day. Harris suffered minor burns, but recovered.
