Railroad Officials Deny Making Any Peace Overtures.
The published report that the high traffic officials of the Santa Fe who were in Topeka this week held a conference with some of the striking machinist leaders, seems to have been without foundation.
"The Santa Fe railroad," said an official of the company this morning, "will never treat with the striking machinists. The rank and file of the machinists seem to have come to that conclusion and have begun to realize that their cause is lost, and have lost heart in their movement. The rumor was undoubtedly started by some of the leaders whose aim it was to try and inspire courage in the minds of the strikers who have become lukewarm." As we have repeatedly said before, there is no inconvenience experienced in the operation of our trains which would indicate that a strike existed on our road.
