Full Text

April 21.

Yesterday a prosecution was commenced by the French consul, resident in this town, against the editor of the Centinel, for a publication in his paper of Wednesday, signed "Hoche" — avowed to have been originally copied from a pamphlet, caused to be printed and circulated in France, by the directory. As published in the Centinel, however, we know it was taken from a New-York paper received by Tuesday's post. Mr. Russell, therefore, can have little to dread from a judicial investigation of the affair.
