The advanced art students of Mrs. Miller's Art Department will enter art division of Scholastic's 16th annual national high school contest. These advanced students are Eva Fisher, Winona Lee, Percell Westbrook. Theodore Douglas, James Boyle, and Mason Neely. These talented pupils are working on clay models and their finished products will be entered in competition with art students from all over the country.
Each year the Scholastic awards for the achievements in Art. Music, and Literature are given to American High School Students by the Scholastic Magazine. The best work in the Art Division will be displayed in Scholastic's 16th annual National High School Art exhibit in the fine arts Galleries of Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pa. The contest is open to all regularly enrolled students in the seventh through twelfth grades in Senior and Junior High schools. In the Art Division. a total of 471 prizes for 14 different kinds of arts and crafts projects including in oils. water color, pencil sketches. costume design. advertising art. and photography.
Mrs. Miller, instructor in our art department and director of art in all Negro Schools of Greensboro, announces that the first annual art exhibit of Negro schools will be held at Windsor Community Center in April. The exact date has not been decided The exhibit will be held for one week, and will include the works of art students in the city schools of Greensboro.
