Full Text

We learn that a powerful revival of religion is now enjoyed at S. Hadley Canal, Mass. This is almost entirely a manufacturing place, and it is a circumstance of peculiar joy when villages of this description are brought under the influence of the gospel. Many persons have expressed strong fears that the increase of manufacturing establishments in our Country, would be a prelude to the increase of immorality and vice. This we are aware is likely to be the case, unless the proprietors of these establishments feel an interest in supporting a preached gospel for their workmen, and schools for the children. Where this interest has been felt, the most happy results have followed. In the paper mill at S. Hadley Canal, twenty-four of the hands have hopefully experienced religion, and so strong has been the feeling there that on the 19th ult. all work was suspended, and nothing was heard throughout the building but the voice of prayer and praise. The revival has extended through the village, and the last accounts we had from that place gave the number of more than 60 converts.
