Full Text

Neither candidate for the lieutenant governorship seems to lose any of his cheerful confidence in success as the season wears on. The partisans of each are unable to see how he can possibly lose the nomination, barring some inconceivable indiscretion of speech or action. Meanwhile the political wiseacres are quite at sea, and there is very little to indicate which candidate is ahead. Bates men seem to be very active in the western counties, and Col. Guild may not be so strong in Boston as was once asserted, but there is nothing conclusive in either of these reports. The campaign is still very young.
