FACILITY.
FOR THE MASSACHUSETTS SPY.
Notwithstanding my aversion to the efforts at caucus domination, which have sometimes been made, where individual merit has too often been sacrificed to the advancement of the unworthy, and the independent expression of opinion by electors made to give place to an irresponsible dictation by the bustling and busy minions of a party, I am glad to see a meeting of the liberal minded citizens of this county called on this evening for the purpose of selecting candidates for the offices to be filled by the approaching election of the people. The call, in the first place, is upon all the friends of the present State Administration, which must include most of the high minded and independent electors of the County, whose voice cannot be disregarded upon the subject, and who are called upon to lay aside, as they have with great magnanimity done for the last few years, the obsolete distinctions of party names, and to select the best men from the great body of the people. If, therefore, the people will be just to themselves, they may, by complying with the call, counteract any improper influence or control in the selection of their candidates, and make the nominations what they should ever be, the free, unbiassed expression of confidence and recommendation on the part of those whose opportunities have enabled them to judge of the merits and qualifications of those who are to be presented to the electors for their suffrages.
There is a still stronger reason existing at the present time for an attendance at the proposed meeting. Two of the present Senators from this county, Messrs. Davis and Bowman, have declined being again candidates, and their places, at least, are to be supplied by new nominations.
NO PARTIZAN.
