Letter from Batesville, Jan. 4, 1837, reports that the Branch Bank's president attempted to form a board on Monday but failed due to absent members including Col. John Miller, Lawson Henderson, Robt. Smith, John Robinson, and Maj. Anthony. It sarcastically attributes the absences to influence by the 'indefatigable member' from Jackson on the legislature.

BATESVILLE, Jan. 4, 1837.
The President of the Branch Bank at this place came over on Monday, for the purpose of forming a Board, but lo! a quorum could not be raised. Col. John Miller, Lawson Henderson, (not yet returned from Missouri,) Robt. Smith, Esq. John Robinson Esq. and the gallant Maj. Anthony, whom Gen. Jackson accompanied in the Creek campaign, did not attend.
So much for the influence exercised over the Legislature by the "indefatigable member" from Jackson.
