REASONABLE DELAY.
President Harding is understood to hold the view that hasty action should not be delayed in dispensing the Muscle Shoals property. The action on the bill pending in congress relating to the matter should be determined deliberately. Delay has been more than advisable. The legislative situation in congress is congested that adequate attention can not be given such a huge proposition. In Mr. Harding's opinion.
Here is an instance where reasonable delay is working and will work to the interest of the taxpayers. When Mr. Ford made his bid for the property a year ago business was stagnant throughout the country, and values of industrial property were at the lowest ebb. Since then industry has gained under the general lenient policy of the Republican administration and the wisdom of Congress in postponing action on the Ford proposal has been exemplified. Interest in the potential value of the Muscle Shoals property is increasing and the business element in business judgment needs that its disposal wait until values can be more definitely determined.
