Full Text

—Pocomoke is enjoying a contest over the Tax Collectorship for that district, and as it was understood the appointment would be made last Tuesday, two large delegations came to Snow Hill, each of which had a candidate for the position. One favored Mr. Edgar Fontaine and the other Capt. Thomas J. Veasey, each side presented its case to the County Commissioners and urged the appointment of its man. but the Commissioners were unable to decide between the two applicants and so the appointment was deferred to another meeting of the Commissioners. There are several other gentlemen who believe, no doubt, that they would make excellent compromise candidates and they could be persuaded to serve their county as Collector. These matters are usually left to the Commissioner from the section where the appointment is to be made and this case is no exception, for just as soon as their representative names the man he will no doubt receive the appointment.
