Full Text

The Right Man.

It is reported that ex-Governor Pattison of Pennsylvania, now a member of the Pacific Railroad Commission, is to be appointed as Secretary Lamar's successor. If the President really intends to make such an appointment, he displays unusually good sense. Mr. Pattison is not an antebellum petrifaction. He is a modern man, with energy and courage. He has no Pan-Electric affiliations. So far as we know, he is his own master, and would be an honest independent adviser of the President. If he should take hold of the Interior Department there would be a needed shaking up in that vicinity. Land rings, timber rings, Indian rings and every other sort of "combine" that is now fastened upon the department would be in danger.—(S. F. Post.
