SENATORIAL.

Scheming politicians and their friends look only to self-interest in their endeavors to achieve political success, caring little for principle or real benefit to the country at large. The sound-headed workingmen, and right thinking people of all classes, who do not allow interestedly false representations to warp and prejudice their judgment, see more and more the absolute necessity of choosing the right man to represent them and their interests in the Senate of the United States, and, therefore, it is that the generality of the people are in favor of William Sharon as the proper successor to W. M. Stewart. The miners especially know that it is owing principally to the efforts and interest of Mr. Sharon that their wages have been and are held up to the present liberal and satisfactory rate. He has never favored any reduction in that respect, but would sooner favor an increase. Skilled labor and fair remuneration, therefore, has always been his motto, and those who represent otherwise and are eternally flinging out the stale war cry of Chinese labor, cutting down wages, and all that sort of thing, are interested in doing so. They simply promulgate what they do not believe themselves. It is to the interest of the working classes to send to the Senate their ablest and most worthy advocate, the man who has secured to them plenty of employment at good wages, the man whom they have known for years as their friend, and who chooses to remain their friend. They certainly can gain nothing whatever in opposing him. In forwarding his own great interests in this State, Mr. Sharon cannot fail also to advance the interests of the State at large and his fellow citizens. The honest and really independent press of the State and coast endorses Mr. Sharon as the proper man to send to the United States Senate, and every day we see even in the columns of our most remote exchanges from different quarters of the State straightforward indorsements, such as the following from the Belmont Courier of Saturday last:

Mr. Sharon, the other Republican candidate, owns perhaps more property in Nevada than any other man in the State. His business capacity and enterprise have opened fields for the employment of hundreds, if not thousands, of workingmen and artisans of all sorts, each one of whom is, at this hour, doing more toward the development of the resources of the State than Messrs. Williams, Thornton, Mitchell or De Long ever did or ever will do. All of these gentlemen can talk, 'till you can't rest,' about the wrongs and the rights of the working-men; but Sharon pays out more coin to them in one day than the whole lot of his rivals ever did since they were born. With the exception of the employment of a Chinese cook when they keep house these would-be Senators have nothing in common with the working classes. Their money is not the fruit of industrial enterprises wisely planned and skillfully managed, as in the case with Sharon; it is the fruit of fat fees wrung from foolish litigants who, in nine cases out of ten, came out of their law-suits ruined, no matter whether they won their suit or not. Such being the fact in the case—and we defy anybody to gainsay them—we have no hesitation in saying that Sharon is immeasurably preferable to any competitor so far named. He is our choice as against any and all of them, and we sincerely hope and believe that he will be our next representative in the United States Senate.
