Mason Out of the Race.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Jan. 14.—United States Senator Mason has formally announced his withdrawal from the contest to be his own successor, admitting the impossibility of his re-election. Representative Church of Chicago, the father of the movement to elect a Chicago man to succeed Senator Mason, has also lost all hope of succeeding in the undertaking and in a public statement abandoned further efforts. Congressman A. J. Hopkins of Aurora probably will be chosen without opposition.
