FROM THE CENTINEL.
The following article is copied from the Baltimore Patriot, which will serve as the ground work for the Portrait of Commerce Haters.
PUBLIC CREDIT.
" Where your treasure is, there your hearts are also."
" We state, as a positive fact, on unquestionable authority that a large amount of 6 per cent United States Stock, has recently been disposed of in Boston and to Federalists of the Boston stamp We mention this to show that with all their newspaper and legislature raving, these very people are sensible of the firm basis on which the cause of the country rests; and of the good faith of the administration. A Single fact of this sort, is worth a volume of Boston Rebel ranting. or a dozen yards of Black or Mills' Resolutions; which in redious gasconade "resolve upon measures which, they dare as well plunge into the crater of Etna as attempt to execute."
REMARK.
We do not believe a word of the above assertion is true. From personal inquiry on the subject we are confident many similar reports which have been played here, are wholly groundless ;-We nevertheless deem it our duty to copy this article to shew to our Capitalists the ready use which the hirelings of the administration would make of it, were any of them so weak and inconsistent as to lend Money to help carry on the War of Destruction to all their hopes The monied men of New-England are principally of the Mercantile class : Let such men then reflect on the bold and alarming assertion of Mr. Secretary Monroe to the Swedish Minister (M. Kanthzow) :
" SIR -The support and protection of COMMERCE does not enter into the policy of the American Administration."
Let them consider too, that this daring intimation came from the lips of the Secretary of State—the very pitchpipe of the President ; and the Aspirant to the Presidential chair ; and made too in an official manner to a Foreign Minister : and then contemplate what must be their prospects if they patronize such an administration !!!
