The New York papers of Tuesday last, give the number of votes taken in that city on Monday at about 14,000. The Jackson majority thus far is estimated at about 3,000 only, by the Jackson papers—denied by the Opposition. The majorities heretofore have been ten thousand. Even making no allowance for exaggeration in the above estimate of the majority, and the result will be about 5,000 only. This will be as well as the most sanguine of our friends expected of the city of New York. The polls are kept open three days.
