Carry it Out if You Want to Make the Turnpikes Free.
Editor Marsh, Maysville Bulletin—Dear Sir: I read and hear a good deal about free travel, and about tollgates being put out of the way. This is certainly very desirable to the average traveler and most assuredly would be a great improvement and benefit to the people of Mason County. But the way to accomplish this without making a heavy burden is a nice question, and one that will bear some discussion.
The Legislature gave us the best road law last year that we have ever had. Would it not be a good plan to try the new law? We have several pikes turned over to the county which will be free and in the near future quite a number of others will be added if the present talk indicates anything. This will give us a chance for trying free pikes with but small expense, and if it proves a success, then we can extend it at a small cost, eventually cleaning off the old toll system and save the tax payers many thousand of dollars.
This is the most logical and the most equitable and we believe the most that tax-payers will favor and our Fiscal Court will adopt.
Give us the new law straight.
