SUICIDE.
Can He Possibly Die "Like a Gentleman"?

SHELBY, Oct. 5.-Information was received here this morning that Ottis Lowe, a citizen of Catawba, committed suicide Sunday morning. He had some throat trouble which was pronounced by the physicians to be consumption of the throat, and he was told that he would die from strangulation. He was heard to say that "he didn't propose to die like a dog, but if he had to die he expected to go like a gentleman." On Saturday he purchased some laudanum, which he secreted in his bed, and on Sunday morning he was found dead.-Charlotte Observer.
