Halloween night, the Youth Council sponsored what was probably Newington's most successful dance. The dance, named the 'Skeleton Shuffle', was attended by approximately 350 students. This is about 63 per cent of the entire school. Past dances usually ran about 23 per cent of the school population.
The decorations were typical of Halloween. A person was hung by the neck from the rope in one corner of the gym. In the center of the gym was a gigantic spider web complete with a yellow and black spider. Around the sides were placed the graves of many of the townspeople. The dance was novel in that they were also different games provided. Larry LeBlanc did his usual spectacular job of spinning the records. Winners of the costume contest are as follows. Best looking couple; Jack Basarab and Penney Klopp. Best disguised; Lynne Bryant, Shari Adams, Betty La Branche, and Nancy Pappaceno - the girls were disguised as a horse. Most impossible; Ray Dougherty. Most Charming; Arthur Breault. Prettiest; Joan Kalinowski. Hobo; Joe Petruzzi. Most Authentic; Gail Gumkowski. Most Original; John D'Aquila. Most Grotesque: Holly Peterson. Most Comical, Lucille Vassallo.
The Youth Council gives its thanks to all those who attended and made the dance the success it was.
