Rail Board Shelves Wage Discussions
NEW YORK--The new railway board of mediation will resume its efforts to bring rail executives and representatives of the railroad brotherhoods into agreement again next week. Conference of the board with both sides in the wage controversy were postponed today until Aug. 24. While no official information has been given out,it is understood that neither the railroad managers or the brotherhood leaders are showing any disposition to make concessions on wage increases. If a deadlock should result from the board's effort at direct mediation, the next step. under the Watson- Parker act, would be to try to induce the disputants to agree to arbitration.
