NEW YORK, December 23.

Wednesday last arrived the Brig Bell Savage, Capt. Lewis, in 28 Days from St. Thomas: He informs us, That about the Middle of November, as Capt. Taylor, in the Privateer Snow Dreadnought, of this Port, was cruising off Guadaloupe, two stout Sloops, of 12 six Pounders and 100 Men each, (all Volunteers) were sent out in order to take him. When a hot Engagement soon commenced; but Capt. Taylor gave the Monsieurs such a warm Reception, that they were obliged to put into Port again, with the Loss of a great Number of their Men, and many wounded.

The Dreadnought mounts only 16 six Pounders, and had not more than 80 Men on board, when the Engagement began, not one of which was killed.
