A Mr. Brewer, a practical stocking manufacturer, has been in Bridgeton at the solicitation of Mr. I. Whilden Moore, and after looking over the city, concluded he would like to locate here, provided he could make satisfactory arrangements with the Board of Education for the rental of the old, unused Giles street school building.
A proposition was made and President Trenchard convened the Board in special session Tuesday to consider the matter.
After reading the call of the meeting, and calling the roll, to which every member responded except Messrs. Fort and Parker, the Board proceeded to the business to be considered.
On motion Mr. I. Whilden Moore presented the proposition of Mr. Brewer, who upon his invitation had visited Bridgeton. He had looked at several sites, and concluded if arrangements could be made he would locate.
In brief he would like to lease the building for five years, with the privilege of renewal for a longer period.
The plant at the start would give employment for 40 or 50 people.
On motion of Mr. Service the Building Committee were authorized to draw a lease.
A recess of ten minutes was taken to allow the Building Committee to prepare a report.
After being out for a short time the committee, through the chairman, Mr. Johnson, recommended that the building be rented for five years at a rental of $10 a month.
The suggestion was unanimously concurred in.
Mr. Moore was requested to make known to Mr. Brewer the action of the Board, which he promised to do at once.
If Mr. Brewer leases the building it is his intention to start work inside of thirty days.
