A CIVIL RIGHTS SUIT.

Sandusky, O. - In August, Miss Iona Morris, a public school teacher of Cleveland, and Mr. Ralph Camp, a Toledo and Lima insurance agent, were refused service after a two-hour wait at a Sunday dinner in Martin's restaurant, a fashionable downtown eating place here. The proprietor was arrested under a section of Hon. Harry C. Smith's Ohio Civil Rights law. Atty. Clarence G. Smith of Toledo represents the plaintiffs. The case, scheduled for trial August 30 and October 13, has been delayed several times. It is a mistake, as a rule, to have such offenders as Martin arrested instead of suing for damages under the Civil Rights Law of the state. Atty. Smith, some months ago, lost a case at Lima as a result of making this very mistake. It is hoped that he will not lose this latest case, as now seems probable. One or two civil rights cases were lost at Columbus, several months ago, for the same reason. Several of the Ohio cases were handled by NAACP attorneys. Mr. Smith is president of the Toledo branch of the organization.
