Our commissioners replied that the land they must have, and would not give it up. The Indians said it was well, and there need no more be said. However, desired them to remain, if they thought proper, until they returned to the council, and laid this before them. On the 8th of August two Indians came and informed, that the final result of their deliberation was the country in question, or war... The express is of opinion, from the language of individual Indians in private, and from other circumstances, that the British wholly conduct their council, and dictate their commands.

Awaited answer from great council at rapids of the Miami and the Lake. On 2d August, Indians demanded cession of lands west of Ohio and Allegheny rivers. Commissioners refused, offering more goods instead. Indians suggested giving goods to settlers to remove them. Commissioners insisted on keeping the land. On 8th August, Indians confirmed demand or war. Express believes British dictate Indian council.
