HILL AND HARRIMAN SCRAP OVER RAILWAY LINE IN WESTERN OREGON.
PORTLAND, Nov. 12.-A desperate legal battle between the Hill and Harriman interests is soon to be fought over the Coos extension of the Coos Bay, Roseburg and Eastern railroad, a 30 mile line extending from Coos Bay to Myrtle Point along the Coquille river and on a paying basis.
The line was formerly in the possession of R. A. Graham but was seized in a sensational manner by J. D. Spreckels in 1898 to satisfy a private debt of $523,000.
Later the road was placed in the hands of a receiver and last year was sold to Harriman.
The receiver was recently discharged and with this Graham comes back into the fight for possession of the road on the ground of the illegality of the Spreckels seizure. He is quoted as being backed by Hill as the Northern Railway magnate wants the line as part of his proposed Portland to San Francisco line. Hill wants it as the last link in his extension of the California Northwestern to Eureka and Portland.
The suit will probably be begun in the federal courts in Portland.
