Full Text

Grover.

Republican cartoonists and newspaper writers had conniption fits after Mr. Bryan paid his respects to Mr. Cleveland, on the eve of the former's departure for Europe. We have no recollection of any instance in which one public man has been so fully, and deftly, and diplomatically roasted in a few words, as the one presented by that brief arraignment of Cleveland by Bryan. But, we fear very much that Mr. Bryan's expressed contempt for the idea of Mr. Cleveland's being a democratic nominee in 1904 may be unwarranted. The men who are behind the Cleveland boom are shrewd politicians. We believe that the most of them are republicans, who supported Cleveland when he was the democratic nominee before. it would not surprise us a little bit if Marcus A. Hanna was one of them. We may be mistaken, but wait and see.
