Glenn Did It Today

After continuous delays, John Glenn, America's third spaceman, circled the world three times as people located in the area over which he traveled kept in touch with the flight over their radios and were immensely thrilled at the privilege of being able to do so.

With breathless interest they heard him leave the U.S., passed over Bermuda, the Canary Islands, Nigeria in Africa, and Australia.

Listeners heard when he was weightless, took food and drink; the astronaut continued his charted course and returned to Cape Canaveral where he took off to start the second and third orbit.

Glenn travelled at 17,545 per hour enabling him to reach Australia in less than an hour's time.
