Full Text
The farmers of York county have been working during the past week or two, more particularly when the ground was in fix, as people seldom work. It is a case of "have to." It is a critical time. The farmers who do not work now, can accomplish very little during the balance of the year. But the work has been progressing nicely for the most part. Many farmers had succeeded in doing all the plowing that they thought necessary or wanted to do in the fall and winter and were in a position to take advantage of planting season as soon as it developed. Others who had not done so much winter plowing devoted the early spring to sowing oats, and the weather that followed has crowded them pretty badly.
Reports from different sections of the county, however, indicate that fine progress has been made with planting operations within the past week or two. In the aggregate a tremendous acreage of corn has gone in and much cotton has also been planted. Taken all together, planting operations are in a pretty satisfactory condition, and after another week, there will be but little left to be done.
