"Midshipman Culp, who was wounded in a duel last Saturday, was yesterday borne to his last resting place. Thus in the bright morning of life, with all his young hopes fresh and clustering round his heart, has another victim been immolated upon the shrine of false honor. Young and a stranger; far from home and all its loved and hallowed recollections, he has gone to render his last account. Agonizing will be the news which will ere long be wafted to his early home, and bitter will be the tears wrung from eyes already, perhaps, grown dim with watching for the young wanderer's coming. The death of young Culp is a sad and fitting close of what may be called the season of the duello. May his melancholy fate exert a salutary influence upon the living who yet sanction and advocate this relic of barbarism."
