SPRINGFIELD—If the Springfield Board of Education approves a proposed salary change for teachers, beginners with a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree would receive $3,750 annually.
The school board tabled action on the salary increase but is expected to act at its March 26 meeting.
Increases would be financed through greater income to the local board from the state school foundation program.
It would not change the present tax structure.
Reason for the proposed increase is to allow the Springfield public school system to compete for teachers with area cities. Dayton school teachers recently were voted increases which allow first year teachers with a college degree to receive $4,000 per year.
The greatest, single increase would be in the beginning bracket where the present pay is $3,400.
Other changes would include:
Beginner's salary, 10 semester hours in graduate school, from $3,500 to $3,850; 20 semester hours in graduate school, $3,600 to $3,950;
Master's Degree, $3,740 to $4,100.
